1) We're an iconic city, the "Home of Uncle Sam." We represent all of America in our economically, racially, socially diverse little city. They even call us "Hollywood on the Hudson" due to all the movies filmed here to capture our stunning Victorian architecture.

2) We have a long history of being innovators. Troy was the "Silicon Valley of the 19th century," leading the way in the Industrial Revolution with iron and steel processes and production. We have a long history of "firsts," from the first technological university, the world-class Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, to the once wildly popular detachable shirt collar, to the first railroad bridge to cross the Hudson River, to Emma Willard, the first women's academy to offer math and science classes. We have always led the way.

3) Troy is at a crossroads geographically and in time, located at the convergence of the Hudson and Mohawk rivers and equidistant from many major Northeastern cities.

4) We are part of the new "Tech Valley" region of the Northeast, with Sematech in Albany, Global Foundries new microchip factory in nearby Malta; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute blazing trails in biotechnology, media and the arts, nanotechnology, computation and information technology, and energy and the environment; and Hudson Valley Community College leading the way with their cutting-edge renewable energy programs.
