Hi Google!
Welcome to Troy, New York - where history, culture and technology meet.
Here in Troy, we're feeling the need for speed! And we believe that we're your ideal test site for ultra-high-speed broadband.
Here are our top ten reasons why Google needs Troy:
1) We're an iconic city, the "Home of Uncle Sam." We represent all of America in our economically, racially, socially diverse little city. They even call us "Hollywood on the Hudson" due to all the movies filmed here to capture our stunning Victorian architecture.
2) We have a long history of being innovators. Troy was the "Silicon Valley of the 19th century," leading the way in the Industrial Revolution with iron and steel processes and production. We have a long history of "firsts," from the first technological university, the world-class Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, to the once wildly popular detachable shirt collar, to the first railroad bridge to cross the Hudson River, to Emma Willard, the first women's academy to offer math and science classes. We have always led the way.
3) Troy is at a crossroads geographically and in time, located at the convergence of the Hudson and Mohawk rivers and equidistant from many major Northeastern cities.
4) We are part of the new "Tech Valley" region of the Northeast, with Sematech in Albany, Global Foundries new microchip factory in nearby Malta; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute blazing trails in biotechnology, media and the arts, nanotechnology, computation and information technology, and energy and the environment; and Hudson Valley Community College leading the way with their cutting-edge renewable energy programs.
5) We have the partners you need in our local universities, local fiber optics providers, the City of Troy, and most importantly a community and region eager to embrace this new technology. We're also a proven test site for new technology and product rollouts... demographically perfect for your trial.
6) What makes Troy most special though is its people - artists, hi-tech workers, telecommuters, creative class people who flock here for the intact Victorian architecture and low cost of living and stay for the sense of community. We are all on-board to bring Google to Troy!
7) We also have the opportunity to greatly benefit our lower-income populations and children in our public schools by bringing Google here, and you'll be able to measure the impact made as our many nonprofit organizations reach out to offer additional services to their constituents.
8) It was no accident that President Obama spoke here at Hudson Valley Community College last year to promote the advance of technology to create more local jobs.
9) Other past presidential candidates are big fans of Troy, New York as well - Secretary of State and former US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton was one of the biggest supporters of Troy's Little Italy District.
10) Finally, not to be immodest, but, we're hot! Just check out the Hellions of Troy skating for the Google cup... burning up the streets with their need for speed. Our people are our greatest asset and will be enthusiastic adopters.
